What we do
Our mission is to help organisations make robust decisions in uncertain times, and to carry through those decisions. We understand political, international and regulatory risk, economic uncertainty, social and cultural change, and the opportunities of technology for our clients. These challenges can surface at many times and in many parts of the organisation. SAMI Consulting works for private, public and NGO sector clients. The tools we use are tailored to the client - from a study to a conference, to training, to a joint project. While we have world class experience of horizon scanning, scenario planning, strategy and policy, our range of expertise is much wider. Some recent case studies illustrate our capabilities.
  • At Arup, we used scenarios to help them think strategically about the opportunities and problems of heady growth. We also used the scenarios to test their 10 year strategic plan.

  • We prepared and presented the course on “The Future of Management” given as part of the Cass Business School MBA, which asked the question, “Is the MBA Sooo last century?”

  • With the City of London we developed scenarios for India and China to 2015 to examine the threats to and opportunities for financial services in London and produced a substantial report.
Also for the City of London we prepared "An Assessment of the City’s ICT Infrastructure" which was published by the Corporation of the City of London

  • A project with Experian for the Construction Skills Sector Council quantified the outcomes of four scenarios for the workforce requirements to 2020, and the implications for training needs for the UK construction sector.

  • A cross-sector project to study the Future of Services to the Public, based on separate workshops and culminating in a one day conference, led to re-assessing the role of globalisation in public services.

  • Glaxo has used SAMI scenarios over the past decade, for corporate strategy and new product space visioning, to driving plans for manufacturing flexibility.

  • At Legal & General, we helped re-focus the organisation as the insurance market changed on the back of demographic changes and new technology.

  • We helped the MAN Group, through senior level workshops, to understand why its conglomerate structure was not effective, to plan divestments, and enter the FTSE 100.

  • The Scenarios for Scotland project was used to provide a vision for the new Scottish Parliament. After interviews and focus groups involving several hundred people, two scenarios emerged – the High Road, or the Low Road.

  • For the Malaysian industrial research lab SIRIM we designed and ran a programme to develop a new industry sector with a task force of senior people from government, academia, industry and research labs.

  • We are helping the Romanian Government develop their higher education strategy for 2025.

  • In Surrey, we worked with the Local Strategic Partnership to develop a Vision 2020 which has supported them in building cross – silo programmes and projects.

  • For Unilever, we helped the team take a long term view of Russian developments in order to frame their marketing strategy.
