Kovi Moodley

associate

Kovi Moodley joined as a SAMI associate in 2011 bringing skills gained as a London-based international management consultant and in private equity. He has 15+ years’ experience advising in European and US companies and worked at strategy and corporate finance houses Kurt Salmon, Athens Europe and Stern Steward & Co. where he advised on buy and sell side transactions as well as strategy projects related to profitability and growth. Advanced modelling and analytics has been at the heart of his work since the start, making him trusted to provide a reliable, accurate and robust data underpinning for clients’ strategic, operational or financial decision making.

Kovi has held overall responsibility (either to Board or to senior management) for creating and managing excel models of various types and in a variety of industries, for example:

  • Supported the successful £370m investment request from the EU Commission: a ‘scenario’ model demonstrated in real-time the impact of different funding levels across the P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow statement (full audits by KPMG, EY, PWC and the EU Commission)
  • Systematised a global diamond manufacturer’s proprietary diamond pricing know-how (system still used each year to price diamonds worth ~$20bn in polished value) and:
    • successfully validated the model with a Big 4 accountancy as “fit for purpose”
    • used the model to built a world-first large diamond index (up to 20+ ca)
    • obtained backing of S&P Indices (to support custom label and an investable diamond index)
  • Modelled all financial levels for Sharp Europe’s EUR150m transformation programme
  • Modelled economic returns for a private equity investment in a UK waste to energy project
  • Crafted a stochastic model to estimate the cash headroom required due to cash volatility in a network of over 11.5k retail outlets (~£250m)
  • Led on market base case model for the design of a major transformation that aimed to eliminate £50-80m in costs over three years (helped the Board envision the three year outlook)

In addition to advanced modelling skills, Kovi has wide cross-industry experience in developing the underlying logic for business strategies, leading on activities such as:

  • Market and competitor analysis
  • Contextualising trends and opportunities
  • Validating growth options
  • Capital investment portfolio management
  • Synthesising clear messages/actions for senior management
  • Collaborating with a cross section of stakeholders to create alignment on strategic plans

Kovi holds an MBA in Finance from University of Rochester in New York (Simon School) and is a UK-qualified management accountant (CIMA).
